Introduction
Saigon Port Technical School was founded
on July 07th, 1983, under the decision of the General Department
of Marine Transport, Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Being one of subsidiaries of Saigon Port, the school's activities
as well as costs for training are covered by Saigon Port.
The functions of the school are as follows:

- Training workers in handling cargoes, tally clerks, and
technical workers to carry out the processes of cargo handling
and warehousing to meet the requirement of port operations.
- Issueing certificates to participants when completing the
training courses.

- Oganizing
courses with the training programmes compliant with the professional
requirement of Saigon Port's staffs and workers and other
companies/organizations as requested. |

Being founded on April 01st, 1956, in Hai Phong and
thru several times of name changing, the school has
been officially named Vietnam Maritime University (VIMARU)
in 1976. In order to meet human resources training of
Vietnam maritime sector, specially in the South of Vietnam,
a branch of VIMARU has been established in Ho Chi Minh
city in August 1991.

VICMAC
Seafarers Center
With the functions of training and re-training seafarers
having grades as regulated by the international conventions
enable to work on board the vessels domestic or abroard,
the center after 4 year of operations and promotion
has trained and managed a number of 684 seafarers of
which including 135 deck officers and 127 engine officers.
